CONTINUING EDUCATION
REPORTING WILL BE DONE DIFFERENTLY THIS YEAR. Instead of having a separate process to report that pharmacists have
completed their required continuing education, reporting pharmacists will be asked if they have completed their
C.E. with certificates dated between 3/1/2009 and 5/15/2012 when they are renewing their Ohio pharmacist license
during the months of July, August, and September 2012. This will be further explained in a letter going out the
week of April 9, 2012 to reporting pharmacists. It will again be explained when the actual online renewal notices
for Ohio pharmacist licenses are mailed near the end of July. Each pharmacist must renew their Ohio pharmacist
license before September 15, 2012. Click here to view letter.
The dates on the
Certificates of Participation that are valid will be further explained in the letter going out the week of April
9, 2012. Each pharmacist is required to show C.E. obtained between March 1, 2009 and May 15, 2012, as required
by 4729-7-02(C), for this reporting cycle for pharmacists with a license number beginning with "033."
Pharmacists with
license numbers beginning with "033" are required to have completed 6.0 C.E.U.s of continuing education
this year. 0.3 C.E.U.s must be Ohio Board of Pharmacy approved jurisprudence programs. Again, these pharmacists
will receive a letter from the board being mailed the week of April 9, 2012 with the process to follow.
OUT OF STATE PHARMACISTS
USING THEIR OUT OF STATE RPH LICENSE TO SATISFY OHIO'S CE REQUIREMENTS: Yes, you must report that you have met
the C.E. requirements for the state in which you have a current pharmacist license during the pharmacist license
online renewal process. You will then be asked to enter the state and that state's rph license number when you
actually renew your Ohio pharmacist license before your Ohio pharmacist license expiration date of September 15,
2012.
Pharmacists who
ARE REPORTING THEIR C.E. FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR may use certificates of participation dated from the date
of first licensure as a pharmacist in Ohio through May 15, 2012. (04/03/12)
Pharmacists who
RECEIVED THEIR FIRST LICENSE WITH THE OHIO BOARD ON OR AFTER 6/1/2010 are not required to report C.E. this year.
These pharmacists will first report C.E. in 2015. (04/03/12)
Yes, pharmacists
may still use a pharmacy practice specific specialty certification as an alternative to continuing education. Specialties
that are approved for use are:
- Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (2011)

- Nuclear Pharmacy (1978)
- Nutrition Support Pharmacy (1988)
- Poison Information
- Oncology Pharmacy (1996)
- Pharmacotherapy (1988)
- Psychiatric Pharmacy (1992)
- When using a specialty certification to meet C.E. requirements, a pharmacist must still complete the required
0.3 C.E.U.s of Ohio Board Approved Jurisprudence. (4/03/12)
